Sewer pipes usually last decades before collapsing or shifting but with trees on the sidewalks and front lawn, the chances of a sewer line getting messed up rise a little bit. The sewer line is usually ignored by home owners until there is a problem. This is almost like driving a car without changing the engine oil until the car asks for an oil change. This can only go on for a certain period of time, but when the car gets old timely oil change becomes more important.
Same with the sewer lines, as the sewer pipe gets old it needs constant and timely attention. You need to do this especially if you have tree root problem. For old pipes, it is not only tree roots that cause trouble, over the years water running through the sewer line erodes the sewer line and dirt starts to fill up in the sewer line. This is not a problem obviously, until the sewer gets clogged and the home owner has to change the sewer line.

Home owners have an option to find out the health of their sewer line. Sewer cameras have been around for a while, many municipalities use robotic sewer cameras to inspect the city and county sewer system.
If you are having constant back ups due to roots or muck stoppages, you might want to consider a camera inspection for your sewer line. This will eliminate the guess work and you will see exactly what is in your pipe and how your sewer pipe looks from inside. Here are a few videos of camera inspections we performed recently. Some camera inspections were requested by the customers and others were recommended by our technicians.

Tree roots are the number one reason for sewer back ups!

Every sewer gets clogged, it is just a matter of time. There are many tips you can follow to prevent a sewer back up, but what exactly do you do when your sewer back ups? First thing is first,

Do not attempt to open the sewer caps, until or unless you have a sewer cleaning machine ready to be used.

Try to limit the water usage in the house. This is so that the clogged sewer does not cause a flood in your basement or other lowest spot.

If your sewer backed up through the basement shower or toilet, put some old towels or news papers around them. This will help stopping the sewer water from spreading all over, in case someone uses the water by mistake.

Keep children away from the sewer water. Sewer water contains numerous types of germs and diseases.

Open the windows to allow the air to circulate and prevent the sewer smell from spreading through your house.

Have cleaning chemicals and disinfectants ready and use them as soon as you have your sewer clog taken care of.

If the sewer water backs up and reaches your walls, it is highly recommended to call professional cleaners to disinfect the backed up area.

You can always email or call your trusty $49.95 Any Sewer or Drain for any kind of sewer or drain related issue.

We deal with hundreds of calls everyday and most of the calls are for sewer clogs. There are many chemicals available that kill roots, but even for the chemical to work efficiently, it needs to applied properly.
Remember the chemicals will not and do not unclog the sewer in case of a backup. Chemicals are used to rid the pipe of roots as a preemptive measure. Take a look at this video from askthebuilder.com. Tim Carter shows one of the ways to get rid of the roots and it seems cost effective for a home owner.
Another option is RootX. RootX is a very effective chemical that really works.
The following picture shows RootX in action

Having sewage backing up through your basement toilet, shower or bathtub is not a pretty sight. When sewer water coming up through your basement and you are calling all your contacts, going through yellow pages, searching the internet for a sewer company, you also have one thought hidden somewhere in the back of your head. You ask yourself, why did it happen? It was running fine yesterday? I just bought the house? My plumbing is new, I shouldn’t have a sewer back up? Why me?
You can always call A$49.95 Any Sewer or Drain and your sewer problem will be taken care of, but the question here is what can you do or you should do to prevent sewer back ups.

If you have trees outside your house, there is a high possibility of tree roots growing into your sewer pipe. As a rule of thumb, you should get your main sewer line going out to the street snaked once a year to rid it of any roots. This will save you money in the long run. Over grown roots can cause heavy damage to the sewer pipe and in alot of cases can cause your sewer pipe to collapse. Changing your sewer pipe can cost you thousands of dollars.

Grease build-up in your sewer pipes is also a problem. If you cook food with alot of grease or use alot of detergents and soaps, it is a good idea to check your sewer line every few months, as grease build up is mostly rapid than root growth. Grease build-up is even a bigger problem if your sewer line is back pitched.

Alot of people do not know where their sewer trap is located until they have a back up. Sometimes the main sewer trap is even buried under concrete, and at the time of a sewer back up the home owner has to go through the trouble of spending extra to locate the main trap. Which also means that it will take longer to get your sewer unclogged. So keep a proper access to the location of your sewer trap also known as the house trap.

If you are a new home owner or already own a house, it is no secret that sometimes it does cost alot to maintain a house, but some expenses, such as sewer and drain cleaning, can be kept under control if maintained regularly.
