The customer was extremely happy to see the broken piece of cable coming out and gave our mechanic a $50 tip for his hard work. Double sinks are not that common but every once in a while we do see them. The pipes under double sinks are connected slightly different than that of a single sink. The thing to keep in mind is, even if you have double sinks or a single sink, the pipes will be connected to a single stackline. Connecting the pipes to a single stackline is way more convenient and cost effective than having multiple stacklines. If you look at the bottom of your double sinks you will clearly see that the traps under both sides of the double sink somehow are connected. If you cannot visually see the pipes connecting, then they more than likely connect behind the wall.
Now, if only one of the sinks is clogged and the other one is running fine, then you can successfully unclog it with a plunger. If the plunger does not work, it means you have an object in the pipe. To remove the object, simply take apart the pipes under the side that is clogged, and clear the pipe. We usually find spoons, rice, bones or grease buildup. Once you clear the pipes, both sides of the double sink should work.
Now, If both sides of the double sink are running slow or are clogged, you can still try the plunger. But, you have to make sure you plug one of the sinks and plunge the other side. You have to plug one of the sinks because plunging one side without plugging the other side would simply cause the water to be pushed up on the unplugged side. If the plunger does not work, you can try other home remedies we have listed in other posts. If all that does not work, you have to get a snake and unclog the sink.
Snaking a double sink is not too different than snaking a single sink. Just be careful taking the pipes apart. It is sometimes difficult to put the pipes together under a double sink. If you have any issues related to your sewer and drain needs, you can always contact us.

Sewer caps coming off during a backup is not that common, but rarely it does happen. This video shows a heavy metal cap being blown up due to a backup in the city storm sewer. Luckily, there were not any injuries.
The sewer caps on your main sewer trap are also vulnerable. The caps have to be put on securely and no water should be coming out of them when you run water in your house. If your caps are loose or old or do not sit in the trap tightly or have lost their threads, it means it is time to buy new caps. During back ups, caps hold the sewer water back and in many cases prevent a mess by keeping the sewer water in the sewer pipe. There are different types of sewer caps. Caps can also prevent sewer rats from coming into your house (sewer rats coming through the sewer pipe into your house is extremely rare). A sewer pipe without caps will not not look good either. 
You have to make sure you have proper caps installed to avoid many sewer related problems.
