Difference between the storm drain system and the sanitary sewer system?
The two systems are not connected in any way. Storm drain system carries “rain” water and is “not” treated. The sanitary sewer system carries sewer waste and is treated at various sewer treatment plants.
Some houses have a combined sewer system, in which the storm and sewer water is transported in one pipe. Combined sewer system does result in frequent sewer backups, especially during heavy rains. ( This not from any offcial report, it is simply what we have seen and what many customers have complained about).
